Intel Labs Europe (INTEL)

Mission

Intel logoThe Innovation Open Lab’s mission is to facilitate and enhance open research and innovation opportunities in Europe that can be converted into various broadly based and value-driven technology solutions. The lab is now part of Intel Labs Europe (ILE) headed up by Professor Martin Curley. ILE aims to drive even closer collaboration with European researchers and policy makers on EU initiatives including exploratory research, methods of using ICT to improve the efficiency of industries and increasing the quality and productivity of ICT overall.

Activities

The Innovation Open Lab facilitates open innovation activities both internally and externally focused. External programs include EU Framework Programme 7 (FP7) and Joint Technology Initiatives (JTI). With an emphasis on IT in the enterprise, a team of more than thirty researchers are now progressing the state of the art in areas related to cloud computing (e.g. in SLA@SOI), context awareness (e.g. in PERSIST), collaboration in the supply chain (e.g. in iSURF), and networking (e.g. in N4C). In the field of sustainability the lab is involved in the FP7 IP’s KAP & PLANT Cockpit both relating to sustainable factories of the future and is also a partner in the REViSITE & L4LIFE Co-ordinated Actions. The Lab has collaborated on the development of the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres and drives various internal initiatives in the ICT4EE space.

Facilities

The Open Lab facilities include a physical laboratory, work and office space, an innovation studio as well as meeting rooms.
